How to Request Skokie Death Records

Who Can Access Skokie Death Records
Illinois law limits who can receive a certified death certificate. Under 410 ILCS 535/24, eligible requesters are the deceased's spouse, parent, child, grandparent, or sibling. Others with a direct and tangible interest may also qualify. This includes estate attorneys, individuals with a court order, and persons with a financial claim tied to the estate.
You must prove your identity and connection to the deceased when you apply. If you do not meet the eligibility criteria, you may be able to access a genealogical copy for deaths that occurred more than 20 years ago. Genealogical copies are not certified and are meant for family research, not legal use.

The Cook County Clerk charges $15 for the first certified copy. Each additional copy in the same order is $4. Fees are set by state law under 410 ILCS 535/25. VitalChek adds its own service fee on top of the county charge.
