Who Can Access Oak Park Death Records

Illinois restricts who can receive a certified copy of a death certificate. Under 410 ILCS 535/24, certified copies go to the deceased's spouse, parent, child, grandparent, or sibling. Others with a direct and tangible interest in the record may also qualify, including estate attorneys, those with court orders, and people with a legitimate financial claim tied to the decedent's estate.

You must provide proof of identity and show your connection to the person who died. If you do not qualify for a certified copy, a genealogical copy is available for deaths older than 20 years. Genealogical copies are not certified and cannot be used for legal or financial purposes.
